Urban Forestry

The City of Grove City’s Urban Forestry Division is responsible for the planting, maintenance and removal of all trees in the City right-of-way (street trees) as well the review, approval and inspections of vegetative plantings and trees at new residential, new commercial, industrial, and multi-family sites as required by the Grove City Planning Commission. The Urban Forestry Division plants in the fall and in the spring. Our maintenance program includes pruning, disease control, removals and storm damage repairs of the City’s approximately 12,000 public trees. For storm or other damage to our public trees, call the Grove City Service Department at 614-277-1100, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Tree Care

When new public trees are planted, the City requests assistance from residents with mulching and watering after the first year the tree is planted. To properly mulch a tree; place hardwood or Com-Til around the trunk area 1-½” to 2-½” deep every two years after May 1. Do not “volcano mulch” by placing heaping mounds of mulch against the trunk which restricts air flow, blocks water from the roots, and keeps the trunk damp increasing the risk of insects, fungi, bacteria and wood rot.

Grove City Tree Commission

On January 19, 1993 the Grove City Tree Commission became a subcommittee of the Grove City Beautification Committee. Each volunteer member is appointed by the Mayor and serves a three-year term. It is the goal of the Grove City Tree Commission to guide and facilitate the operation of a comprehensive municipal urban forestry program and enhance the quality of life for all Grove City residents. The commission meets the second Friday of every month at the Grove City Service Department, from 7-8 a.m. The meetings are open to the public.

Tree City USA

Grove City has been named a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for our support and achievements for protecting trees. Grove City has received this national recognition each year for the last 18 years.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day foundation in cooperation with the National Association of Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. Grove City has met four standards to become a Tree City USA community; having a designated tree board or department responsible for the care of trees in the community, passing a tree care ordinance; having an active comprehensive community forestry program; and hosting an Arbor Day celebration.

Commemorative Tree Program

The commemorative Tree Program enables residents to donate trees for planting in parks or other public places in memory or in honor of an individual place or event. This program is brought to you through the City of Grove City Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the Grove City Tree Commission.
