Grove City Named Tree City USA for the 19th Year

Grove City, Ohio, has been named a Tree City USA community for the 19th year by the Arbor Day Foundation. This award has been given annually to honor Grove City’s commitment to improving its community forestry program.

Ohio is the nation’s leader in Tree City USA communities with 237 participating cities, villages and townships. This marks Ohio’s 31st year as the top Tree City USA state, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Forestry.

The urban forestry staff of the Grove City Service Department and the volunteers of the Grove City Tree Commission work to promote tree education and community pride at Arbor Day, Community Environmental Day, the Farmers’ Markets and the Annual Tree Sale. In 2012, the focus will be to continue to educate the community about emerald ash borer and the Asian longhorn beetle (recently found in Clermont County).

“The Tree City designation is an important goal for the Grove City’s urban forestry program and something we take great pride in,” said Mayor Richard L. “Ike” Stage. “This program helps Grove City deal with urban forestry challenges, such as the emerald ash borer.”
