Grove City Celebrates 20th Anniversary as Tree City USA
Grove City, Ohio, has been named a Tree City USA community for the 20th year by the Arbor Day Foundation. This award has been given annually to honor Grove City’s commitment to its effective community forestry program.
Ohio is the nation’s leader in Tree City USA communities with 249 participating cities, villages and townships. This marks Ohio’s 31st year as the top Tree City USA state, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Forestry.
Each year the urban forestry staff of the Grove City Service Department and the volunteers of the Grove City Tree Commission work to promote tree education and community pride at summer Farmers’ Markets and the spring Tree Sale. In 2013, the focus will be to continue to educate the community about emerald ash borer and the Asian longhorn beetle (recently found in Clermont County).
“We take great pride in the Tree City designation, it reflects our commitment to create and maintain a sustainable environment for future generations,” said Mayor Richard L. “Ike” Stage. “We thank our Tree Commission volunteers who work with residents concerning proper tree planting and care.”
